The annual Old Boys vs College Summer Sports Fixtures provided two enjoyable evenings of competition as former and current students came together on the cricket field and tennis courts.
Day 1 – Cricket
The series began with a T20 cricket match against the College 1st XI at the Farne. Old Boys captain Angus Scott won the toss and elected to bat, with the side reaching 115 all out in the 16th over. Charlie Wenley led the scoring with an entertaining 37, including four fours and two sixes, while Lovepreet Padda added a stylish 25 featuring four boundaries. The remainder of the batting card found runs hard to come by against some excellent fielding and bowling from the 1st XI, with Kupa (3-38), Cole (4-7) and Wakefield (1-11) the standout performers.
The 1st XI chased the target comfortably, reaching 119-2 in just 11.5 overs to secure an eight-wicket victory. Ross anchored the innings with an unbeaten 67, supported by Benefield's 29. George Mowat (1-10) and Harry Cassidy (1-17) were the most successful of the Old Boys bowlers.
A sausage sizzle and refreshments rounded off the afternoon. Thanks go to all the young Old Boys who took part, along with Rob Hay and Milarn Smith for organising the fixture.
Day 2 – Tennis
The following evening saw the annual tennis fixture, once again organised by Rob Hay and College Head of Tennis, Mr Greg Fall. The Old Boys side enjoyed a successful night, defeating the College team 4-0 in the first-to-nine format.
Results were:
Jono Fall & Theo King defeated Otis Hoggard & Cooper Ellingham, 9-7
John Penny & Phil Mitchell defeated Oscar Green & Ryder Firth, 9-1
Kadin Good & Andrew Ellingham defeated Freddie Walker & Campbell Ellingham, 9-3
Howard Pedersen & Kim Cooper defeated Oscar von Dadelszen & Max Gaddum, 9-4
Thanks to Campbell Howlett and Glen Petersen for their courtside support, Steve Greer and Andrew Shand for stepping in when required, and Debbie Hay for keeping everyone well fed. It was also a pleasure to welcome our new Rector, Mr Craig Hardman, to the occasion.
The two fixtures were another successful opportunity for Old Boys and current students to catch up, compete, and continue a tradition that remains an important part of the Lindisfarne calendar.
