Traditionally, Lindisfarne Gala Day’s provide and encourage the boys themselves to show a little initiative and devise ways to make money for the school.
The incredibly successful Lindisfarne College Gala Days began in 1957 and was organised by the Staff, boys and parents (there being no Parents’ Association as such). It was held on the final weekend of the School year and they raised £370.
“A gala day in the 50s is well remembered by a few, when one resourceful fellow, ably assisted by his friends set up a game of Escalado. They had parents queuing to play. Ultimately this enterprising stall took the most money on the day. The College accepted their contribution but gated the miscreants responsible for gambling.” Old Boys reminiscing, 40th year anniversary.
As part of its intensive fundraising activities, the Parents’ Association decided in 1967 that it will become an annual event for the Parents’ Association, and this continues to this present day.
In 2018 the Gala Day grossed more than $76,000 for the College, funds that go directly to enhancing the experience of the boys whilst at school.
