Rowing
The Rowing crews won the under 16 and 17 Eights at the HB Secondary Schools’ Champion ships. The College, for the first time, entered a Junior Rowing 4 into the National Secondary Schools’ Maadi Cup Regatta.
Cricket
In 1982 Martin Crowe, transferring from Auckland, to play his Cricket for Central Districts, after the NZ Team’s tour of England, arrived to take on a Senior House Tutor’s job for two terms. Oak Avenue Run.
Cross Country
For the first time, Lindisfarne entered a Junior and senior team into the National Secondary Schools’ Cross-Country Championships, held in Timaru. Lindisfarne came third place. The School Cross Country course was moved away from the traditional Oak Avenue run. The new Senior course involved two circuits of the Frimley Park – Lindisfarne perimeters, with lesser distances for the other three events. Rathkeale Exchange 1983.
The three top Winter Sport teams in Rugby, Hockey and Soccer had victories in the annual fixture against Rathkeale. The significance of the Rugby game against Rathkeale – was that the team, led by S Stokes, recorded the first ever win against that College by a Lindisfarne 1st XV, and thus won the inaugural game for the Lindisfarne – Rathkeale Challenge Shield. Football and Hockey, captained by R. Hay and B. Lyver respectively, made it a clean sweep for the College that day.
Quad Tournament 1989
The inaugural Presbyterian Schools’ Quadrangular Rugby Tournament was held in Christchurch. Schools that compete are: Lindisfarne College, St Kentigern College, St Andrew’s College and Scots College. The winner was St Andrews. Lindisfarne has won Quad in 1994, 1996, 1997, 2011 and 2015.
