Tom Yule (2003-2009)

Tom Yule (2003-2009) founded IRONCLUB in 2017. The Hawke's Bay business offers a wide range of earthworks equipment and trucks for hire.

We got the opportunity to catch up with Tom a while back. He gave some great insight into his time at Lindisfarne & life since:

What have you done since graduating from Lindisfarne? What do you do now?

"Since leaving Lindisfarne I spent a year working overseas before completing and a commerce degree at Lincoln University. Upon returning to Hawke's Bay I purchased a small trucking business. We sold this business after two years and I took a job inside the company that bought us out. I decided that I wanted to own and grow my own business again. So with Amber's support we started our equipment hire business four years ago"

What drew you to your career? What do you enjoy most about what you do?

"I have always had a passion for heavy machinery which has led me down this path. I always new I wanted to own an operate my own business and the business we are in now fits with where we want to go at this stage of our lives"

Do you think your time at Lindisfarne College helped you to pursue this? If yes, how?

"Lindisfarne College provided many opportunities for myself to build confidence. This learning largely came through competitive sport and school leadership tasks. This has played a big role in pushing myself to give things a go as time has gone by"

Looking back, what are some of your best memories or experiences from Lindisfarne? How has your Lindisfarne experience impacted your life today?

"The best memories from school for me came from playing sport with friends. It's not until later on reflection that you realise how great these memories are. The rugby tour was a highlight for me"

What was your funniest moment as a student? What was your favourite dining room meal at College?

"Murray Richardson's facial expressions, and favourite meal was mixed grill"

Were you involved in any sport, cultural, clubs etc. as a student? What did you enjoy most about them and what benefit do you think they have for students?

"I was involved with many sports and cultural activities at school. This taught me to mix with a range of different people from different backgrounds"

What are some good values you learnt at school?

"I worked hard at school and watched many peers do the same. This was a great standard to set"

What piece of advice would you give to boys in their final year of College?

"Don't take yourself too seriously and enjoy the comradery"

Are you still in touch with anybody you met at College?

"Yes my closest friends are from my Lindisfarne year group"

What is your lasting impression of Lindisfarne College?

"I have a positive lasting impression of the College. I was fortunate to enjoy my time thoroughly and meet some great people"
