A couple of weeks ago a number of Old Boys supported the Bay Cities Symphonic Band 20th Anniversary concert (with guests, the College Concord Symphonic Band), in the Auditorium, and Ovation to former Head of Music at Lindisfarne, Mr John Snowling. Great to see James Bevin, Brooks Kershaw, Ben Hunt, Eddie Harvey, Rob Hay & Kim Francis. There was much reminiscing, for the 150 attendees, over the historic displays - including some memorabilia from John's 90's Youth Band Tours overseas.
We learned a lot in the two fantastic presentations on John's legacies - both at Lindisfarne College, and in the wider banding community.
It was especially emotional when 'Papa J' conducted the Concord Band playing Highland Cathedral. Bay Cities played a fabulous programme of nostalgic pieces from over the last 20 years as well as a few new favourites.
The Massed Band Finale was thoroughly enjoyed by both players and audience alike, and we couldn't go home without John conducting the Invercargill March
Finally, the afternoon concluded with Bay Cities' first ever Life Memberships being presented to John and Madge Snowling and Brian and Maureen Kennedy - in appreciation of all their many years of service.
